In order to obtain your CCDW permit in the state of KY, you must first take and pass the classroom and range portion of the CCDW course. The classroom portion is a six-hour block of instruction that will cover many different topics. Some of those topics include the KY’s CCDW laws, safety, cleaning and maintaining your weapon, holsters and other methods of carry, use of lethal force and much more. You will also take a multiple choice test.
After the classroom portion is complete we will move out to the range and fire the KY CCDW course of fire. You will shoot from seven yards, 21 feet and you must hit 11 out of 20 to pass. While on the range we will discuss things such as your grip, your shooting stance, trigger squeeze and target analysis. Once that has been done, we will move back to the classroom to finish out the day.
In order to take this course, you must be at least 21 years of age the day of the class and you must be a resident of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. If you have questions regarding qualifications, you may follow the link http://www.kentuckystatepolice.org/ccdw/qualifications.html
When you come to class we ask that you show up fifteen minutes early so we can check you in and get started by 0800. After you have registered you will receive an email with important instructions and what you will need to bring to class. If you have any questions about the class or what to bring and you need them answered before you come to class, you may call, text or email me.
